Birthday Princess, Dancing Queen

We went out to brunch for a post-birthday celebration this morning. Bridget was in good spirits (surprise, surprise) and decided to show off her dancing skills. We can't make this stuff up, see the video for proof!

Happy Birthday Bridget!

It is still sinking in that we have a ONE YEAR OLD! Today was a busy day which started with a trip to the doctor for Bridget's 1-year check-up. We then went to Oakland to pick up Bridget's grandparents who came to visit from Portland. After a quick afternoon nap we headed to our favorite restaurant, the Lark Creek Inn, for a Birthday Dinner. The restaurant staff surprised her at the end of the meal with a special birthday dessert. All in all, Bridget had a pretty great first birthday!
Bridget gave her hair a quick touch-up during dinner. She wanted to look her best.

McDonald's for Dinner

I promise this wasn't planned...but the same evening that I posted the "McDonald's for Breakfast" post, Bridget and I ended up having McDonald's for dinner. We were driving home, missing Nathan, and wondering what we would eat for dinner, and the golden arches called our name. Bridget very much enjoyed her first Happy Meal. She also enjoyed squeezing her juice box all over the table.

It is also a complete coincidence that every blog post in August has involved Bridget either eating or playing in he kitchen.

McDonald's for Breakfast

Bridget has a magnetic toy set that sticks to the fridge and provides her tons of entertainment. It is a mix and match farm animal set and we sing "Old McDonald had a farm" when she plays with it. It comes in really handy in the morning when I am trying to get ready and Bridget insists on being by my side. It is also a good way to distract her from Panzer's cat food.

Girls Dinner

Nathan had to go out of town for work again this weekend so Bridget and I decided to treat ourselves to breakfast for dinner at IHOP. It is always fun to see her interact in public. She charmed the servers as well as fellow diners. Her best compliment of the evening came from an older woman who walked up and told Bridget she has a "yummy scale" for babies and that Bridget was at the top of the scale.

Bridget couldn't decide if she wanted to order from the adult menu or the kids menu.

In the end she settled for pancakes off the kids menu. Mom gave her a few bites of sausage and hash browns as a compromise.

Here is a shot of Bridget eating her pancakes. She really did like them even though her face seems to tell a different story (maybe it was the lack of butter and syrup).

In case you are wondering, the bruise on her forehead came from a recent walking attempt. She is really starting to get strong but her balance needs a little work.

Bridget Got Tagged

Bridget is not even 1 yet, and she is already getting sucked in to the ever evolving world of chain letters. I remember growing up I used to get involved in chain letters via snail mail…you know what I’m talking about, send a postcard to the person listed below and in 3 weeks you will receive 400 postcards from all over the world. When I was in college it evolved into email chain letters...send this to 20 people and in 2 weeks you will come in to thousands of dollars and have good fortune for 2 years (or face 18 years of bad luck if you don’t forward the email). Now we've moved on to blog tagging.

Here are the rules of this tag....
- Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
- Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
- Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

So here it goes:
Fact 1 - Bridget is not able to type yet (hence her mother is typing this).
Fact 2 – Bridget has blue eyes. It wasn't until she was 9 months old that we could officially make this claim. But now they are here to stay, and Bridget is already mastering how to use them for good and evil.
Fact 3 – Bridget has 8 teeth. And she knows how to use them.
Fact 4 – Bridget likes coffee. See previous blog post for more details.
Fact 5 – Bridget has been in 6 states - California, Washington, Texas (airport only), Virginia, Nevada, and Oregon.
Fact 6 – Bridget can say Dog and Cat, and she knows the difference!
Fact 7 – Bridget learned how to use a straw this weekend. I think she was just showing off because Auntie Sara was taking pictures.

She actually was able to get water out of the straw, as you can see by the droplets on her chin. Too bad we didn't get a picture when she spit the water back out like a fountain.

Now, Bridget has to tag 7 blogs...
1. Sara and Brett, because they are the ones that looped Bridget into this tag. She is just returning the favor.
2. Hazel and Brad, because if Bridget has to complete this, so does baby Cody!
3. Rachael , because I think she probably has some great facts about her boys.
4. Sonya , because I want to see her post some facts (and I challenge her to not include anything having to do with the 49ers or designer purses ;)
5. Jennie , because I agree with Sara that she needs to update her blog
6. Kenna , because, again, I agree with Sara that she needs to update her blog
7. Uh-oh, Bridget doesn't know anyone else with a blog.

Thirsty Girl

This post is a two-parter to make up for not updating for the last 10 days.

Part One:
I got some great shots of Bridget last week when we were visiting her grandparents and Uncle Ryan in the south bay. Bridget doesn’t take too much interest in the cabinets at home but they sure provid a lot of entertainment in Mountain View. She was careful to sample every bottle type she could find. We’re not sure if she picked a favorite. Here are some of her choices:

Part Two:
Bridget inadvertently got her first taste of coffee today. To give some background, I always let her "pretend" to drink from my coffee mug from time to time. I never let her get any in her mouth, but letting her sip from the mug makes her feel like a big. Well…today the mug was a little too full, and she got a big gulp of luke-warm coffee. Before I could even react to the big sour face I expected, she started laughing and got a huge grin. Then she asked for MORE! Who ever heard of a baby who likes coffee??? Here are some shots after a few more sips. Don’t worry - I don’t try this with her when I’m drinking vodka tonics.
